heat the work uniformly to a bright red , dip or roll it in the powder which will adhere to the surface , thereby forming a shell round the work. reheat to abright red and plunge into clean cold water
this process will give the work a hard uniform and reliable surface casing . If a deeper casing is required the above process should be repeated before plunging in water
cast or Tool steel
heat the work to a light yellow . Deposit in the powder or sprinkle the powder over the workunitil the powder has actually fused . reheat the work up to its tempering temperature and plunge into clead cold water

the compound should be used in a well ventilated space or where any toxic fumes are extracted through a flue or ventilated hood
